BioCampus Cologne on 24 November, 2021: Cologne-based bioeconomy company BluCon Biotech has received a funding decision of 931,111 euros from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) to expand its proprietary fermentation technology from agricultural residues such as straw to produce part of the bioplastic polylactic acid (PLA).
The globally unique and highly innovative technology developed by BluCon Biotech offers a decisive advantage over currently available fermentation processes for L-lactic acid from sugar beet, sugar cane or corn, as no staple foods are required as raw materials.
